Boulder Sculpture Studio
Born Out of the Fire
It’s amazing what can be born from fire. After a devastating loss of home and studio, a building team was brought together to recreate what was a sculptor’s life’s work. Working with Arch11 Architecture to create a new studio that was not only Modern and fire-resistant but firmly grounded in the old ways, of working with your hands, of craft and beauty. The build posed challenges of a remote site, granite bedrock, high fire area, and limited window to build at such high elevation. Key elements to note are the large rollup doors at the studio level, expansive sculpture/roof garden, and extensive mechanical & insulation systems that create a highly efficient building. Large windows to the west offer amazing views from the living area above.
